While my main focus is working on documentary films, to feed the habit I occasionally shoot weddings, dance recitals, and other events. Last night I had the pleasure of going to Dickenson Auditorium at the new and beautiful William Fleming High School to tape the spring recital of my friend Liza Deck’s dance students. What a great bunch of kids. I hope they know how lucky they are to have someone like Liza heading up that program.

I met Liza and her now-husband Jimmy when I took a job at WFHS as the head of a beautifully outfitted video lab called Magnet TV studios at the school in 1995. Both of them were incredibly welcoming and do a great job of teaching high school kids what it means to think like and become a true artist. It saddens me to know that after I left the video program fell on hard times and didn’t make the transition when the new school was built 2 years ago, but I’m glad to see that a lot of what we all built together in the School of the Arts survives.
